SCS provided technical and implementation support to Department of Energy (DoE) Government of Vanuatu in designing, implementing and operation of institutional biogas systems using kitchen and livestock waste at two of the country’s premier boarding schools, Onesua Presbyterian College (Efate) and Vanuatu Agriculture College (Santo).
The systems were constructed as part of the European Union (EU) funded Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Energy (ACSE) project, which is led by the Vanuatu Department of Energy (DOE) in partnership with GIZ.
The project also provided hands-on training to the DOE, and invaluable lessons on the delivery of biogas systems to rural people. This training will also ensure that the DOE is better placed to provide feedback to Government about the cost effectiveness and practicalities of biogas versus LPG bottle gas.
